Virtual conferences extend professional development opportunities

When you think of professional development opportunities does your mind race to long flights and extended time away from home? Conference opportunities seem to flood our inbox though participation is usually tagged with a hefty price tag. Virtual opportunities, however, seem to be gaining in popularity and there are many excellent events coming up that may be doable for you including the following:

  • The interactive Canvas webinars are excellent virtual opportunities that many LCCC faculty have already engaged with. We'll have continued access to these trainings through January 31, 2019.
  • Interested in learning more about plans behind Canvas and hearing from educators who use it? Register to watch the live stream of all five keynotes from InstructureCon this week! They promise engaging virtual pre-show entertainment (come 1-hour early for games, prizes, sideshow acts), and then you can chat with Canvas personnel while the main keynote event unfolds. The Faculty Vanguards will be at InstructureCon--we'll hope to see YOU attending virtually!
  • The CET will host this virtual conference
    in October.
  • Another opportunity to consider is NISOD’s Virtual Conference on Wednesday October 17.  The conference is a series of 50-minute sessions, all of which focus on excellence in teaching and supporting student success. Topics include increasing student engagement, teaching critical thinking, and using mobile devices in the classroom. You can attend one session in EEC 224 or attend them all. The CET will be hosting all sessions on our large display. Plan your attendance today—session descriptions and schedule available online.

If you know of an upcoming virtual conference that may be of interest to others share it via the comments below.
