The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) is a well-established organization that focuses on professional development opportunities and knowledgeable information for enhancing online learning. From its origination as the Sloan Consortium; the OLC continues to be a leading foundation for offering a range of best-practice publications, webinars, and workshops to help improve online instruction. LCCC has an institutional membership; however, each individual needs to create their own account in order to log in and access the complete collection of resources.
After you have created a personal account with OLC, you can participate in many scheduled and on-demand webinars. The OLC Institute for Professional Development provides workshops, online teaching certificate programs, and self-paced training opportunities. OLC offers a variety of workshops under different tracks that includes “Creating Effective Assessments”, “Strategies for Designing & Facilitating Engaging Online Discussions”, and “Designing with Accessibility in Mind”.
OLC produces the quarterly Online Learning Journal, which is a well-respected resource for a large collection of scholarly peer-reviewed papers. The Online Learning Journal has existed for twenty-years with a mission to provide “knowledge about the very best research in online learning”. In addition, within the OLC research center you will find various articles based on original research studies, under categories such as “Teaching & Learning” and “Instructional Design”. The OLC blog also covers many interesting themes involving educational issues and instructional applications. Besides their numerous published resources, the OLC sponsors regional meetings through its OLC Collaborate series, and two annual national conferences: OLC Accelerate and OLC Innovate. These events all focus on promoting emerging technologies, practices, and strategies for improving online learning.
